Throughout my almost 20-year career in coaching, education, training, behavioral health, & social work, I have witnessed a significant increase in anxiety, isolation, dissatisfaction, dread, & hopelessness among adults & emerging adults. Stress, reactivity & distraction challenges are increasingly negatively impacting all aspects of our lives.
This observation motivated me to narrow my scope of work & focus into ADHD Life Coaching. During my ADHD Coaching Training I discovered my biggest blind spot, I too have ADHD! I am now reviewing & remembering the last 45 years of my life with a clearer lens, as well as greater acceptance & understanding of myself & my ADHD. I also came to realize that my personal yoga & meditation practice for the last 25 years has significantly reduced the impact of my ADHD symptoms.

To understand the Second Arrow, we first need to understand the First Arrow. The First Arrow refers to the unavoidable difficulties of being human. Life includes challenges we do not choose & often cannot control. Being born with ADHD, experiencing loss, living with chronic pain, & facing uncertainty are all part of our lived reality. These experiences can be deeply difficult, frustrating, & at times overwhelming.
The First Arrow is what happens to us.
The Second Arrow is how we respond.
& this is where choice becomes possible.
The Second Arrow is the additional suffering we layer onto an already challenging experience. It shows up through our thoughts, reactions, & inner critic. We may ask, “Why me?” “Why now?” or “Why can’t this be different?” Often, we turn against ourselves—blaming, judging, or carrying guilt & shame for things being exactly as they are. We may deny, ignore, repress, or try to numb our feelings through distraction, food, alcohol, shopping, or overdoing.
Through awareness, we soften the grip of the Second Arrow by returning again and again to compassionate presence. Meeting experience as it is, with less judgment, allows insight to arise naturally. Over time, this cultivates confidence and agency, helping us reduce the suffering that IS within our control.
At Second Arrow ADHD Coaching, my aim is to guide individuals in navigating life's challenges with compassionate mindfulness, resilience, & intentional action. By integrating self-regulation strategies with evidence-based practices, we will cultivate a more skillful & supportive approach to life with ADHD.
